“A wolf dressed in sheep.” This is one of the first annotations that a prosecutor against trafficking in the Public Ministry (MP) made, in November 2024, a series of complaints for sexual assaults against girls in the urban area of Joyabaj, Quiché.
The “wolf” to which the researcher referred to in his notes was Apolinario Hernández Púan accountant who had installed an office in which he offered audit services and other financial procedures. In those days, one of the victims, a 10 -year -old girl, denounced her parents an aggression that occurred within the office, and uncovered Pandora’s box.
On November 14, 2024, police and prosecutors broke into the office of Hernández Pú. Within the property, the researchers found that the environment was monitored by a camcorder system. The accountant could observe, through screens, who entered or approached the door of the office, a mechanism used to commit abuse.
THE DIARY OF ABUSES
In the search, the prosecutors confiscated a tablet, a cell phone and a camera. Hernández Pú, seeing the police threw their phone on the ground and trampled it to destroy it. Despite damage to the device he failed to erase the Videos that now incriminated him as Joyabaj’s sexual predator.
The investigations have managed to suspect that, between 2023 and 2024, this man sexually assaulted 15 girls between 4 to 10 years. A judge sent him to trial for three crimes, obstruction of criminal action, possession and production of pornographic material of minors.
In that audience what left the procedural parties speechless are the videos discovered in the tablet and cell of Hernández Pú. In the devices 11 sexual assaults are recorded to girls.
Sergio Román, prosecutor against trafficking in MPs, was the one who reported the vexars found on the devices. To greater astonishment, they were chronologically ordered. While the details were given, the aforementioned kept his eyes towards the ground throughout the audience.

The battle is not won for the Prosecutor’s Office. While Hernández Pú was in pretrial detention and will face trial for three crimes, he has not yet been tried for the abuses committed against the girls he recorded. Prosecutors try to convince the parents of the minors to file formal complaints and thus open a case for these vexars.
