Holy Week begins with the Palm Sunday And concludes with resurrection Sunday, says Aciprensa on its website.

Palm Sunday

The triumphant entry of Jesus to Jerusalem is celebrated prior to the beginning of the Mass; It is the Easter Florida and the triumph of the resurrection. However, this Sunday is also evoked to Passion of the Lord to make us consciously enter the Holy Week of the glorious and loving passion of Christ in the Lord.

Holy Tuesday

The Chrism Mass is celebrated. Bishop Gonzalo de Villa officia this Mass in the Metropolitan Cathedral, with the presence of all the priests of the diocese. The oleos are enshrined in that mass and the chrism is blessed.

Holy Thursday

The institution of the Eucharist, the priestly institution and is the day of love is celebrated. The readings of Holy Thursday invite to deepen the mystery of the Passion of Christ, since whoever wishes to follow has to sit at his table.

This day also Jesus gives a testimony of the vocation of service to the world with the sink of feet to his disciples. On behalf of this act, in the Eucharistic celebration the priest washes the feet of twelve faithful.

Good Friday

Usually in Catholic temples the laudes and viacrucis pray in the morning. And in the afternoon, the Lord’s passion is celebrated. It is a day of fasting and abstinence. It is also meditated at 7 words of Jesus on the cross.

Holy Saturday

The resurrection of the Lord is celebrated in the Easter vigil, the passage of death to the life of Jesus is celebrated and the salvation that God offers to humanity is proclaimed in the word.

The liturgical celebration has two central parts: the word (there are nine readings instead of the usual two or three) and the sacrament (baptism and confirmation). If you attend the celebration, take a bell.

This day the Pascual Cirio, symbol of the light of Christ. The Pascual Cirio is inserted five grains of incense, which symbolize the five glorious sores of the Lord on the cross.

The Pascual Cirio remains on during the seven weeks of the fifty Pascual. It also ignites in baptisms and funeral, that is, at the beginning and end of temporal life.

Easter Sunday

Easter is celebrated. This is the most important party of the liturgical year and is celebrated for 50 days.

The celebration begins on Holy Saturday or Saturday of Gloria and extends to Pentecost.

Where is, follow Holy Week celebrations with this guide

If you cannot go to a religious temple here we give you a guide so that where you can follow the main celebrations of the Pascual Triduum, which are the three most important days of Holy Week.

  • JHoly Ueves: Read and meditate on the story of the Last Supper: Matthew, 26, 26-28; Marcos 14, 22-24; Lucas 22. 19-29, and/or Corinthians 11, 23-27.
  • Good Friday: You can fast, read and measure the 7 words of Jesus on the cross:
    • Father, forgive them because they don’t know what they do (Luke 23, 24)
    • I really tell you, today you will be with me in paradise (Lucas 23, 23)
    • Son, there is your mother; Mother, here is your son (Juan, 19,26)
    • My God! My God! Why have you abandoned me? (Matthew, 27, 46)
    • I am thirsty (John 19,30)
    • Everything is consummated (John 19, 30)
    • Father, in your hands I entrust my spirit (Luke 23, 46)
  • Holy Saturday: Save silence and meditate on how what happened helps you grow in your faith. Read Psalm 117, Matthew 28, 1-10. At dusk, turn on a family candle and thank the resurrection of Christ.
