On Monday, a domain extinction judge immobilized six of eight properties at the request of the Public Ministry (MP), valued in Q10 million, because they are linked to Miguel Martínez, former government official of Alejandro Giammattei.
From that information, Press Libre contacted Martínez to know his opinion in this case. He agreed to an interview to give his opinion regarding this recent case and some accusations that have already been made to him nearby people.
Martínez talked about the current case before the United States, where he seeks that this country lifted the sanction; as well as other cases in which it has been publicly linked, including the failed process of adopting two children, a topic published by the Vox Populi digital medium for which the process was annulled.
On the most recent case and the immobilization of the six properties, the former head of the Government Center ensures that residences in the process of extinction have been rented at some point by their family to live and were never of their property.
In addition, he assured that other processes in which he has been linked are companies that belong to close friends, but have never had participation.
He insisted that he does not maintain friendship or communication with the Attorney General, Consuelo Porras, but with Giammattei government officials and members of the Vamos party, which is still part of the Honor Court.
What link do the immobilized properties have with you?
The first is from my friend Demi – López, personal friend of Martínez and an official in the government of Alejandro Giammattei; He lives in Spain.
He was already judged. They put her as it was mine, but he came to show how he was paying her, how he had bought it and everything was elucidated.

Why do you think the MP is investigating this?
To have the opportunity to show the population that it is not true.
How are you going to defend the MP?
I sent to the judge a memorial where I appeared as a third party, but I have nothing to do with the properties.
Do you have knowledge of any criminal cause against you?
There are seven investigations against me (…) the first is from 2019. The MP is investigating me and there is information that has not wanted to give me because they have it under reserve. Even in some processes I have already gone to the MP.
In the case of adoption – the news was published in the middle Vox Populi– I went to testify, and they denounced me because I had threatened an alleged video of these journalists, but I never knew in the end what the video was and how I was going to extort them.
There is also a complaint we put because They wanted to lynch my family, and they have it detained.
What link does your sister have with that adoption file?
I started the process last year, after the government of President Alejandro Giammattei, so that, according to me, there were no misunderstandings. Then, my sister was going to stay as a person in charge of the children if I was missing.
When the children say, I am not referring to that they already existed. In my file I put that I would like to adopt a couple of brothers and I didn’t care about the conditions. I had just been declared eligible when journalists took the file.
You also have a process in the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC, in English), in which you seek your sanction to be lifted. Do you consider that the decision to immobilize the properties will affect your request?
The theme of the OFAC should not be mixed with the issue of these goods.
And how has your request advanced?
For the issue of change of government – in the United States -, the OFAC has had these processes a bit. The last information we have is that right now this month will give us certain information that they have against and they will give us the opportunity to defend us. They told us that at the end of May.
The OFAC sanctioned me for two specific cases: Covid vaccines, which are even officials of this government with which I have nothing to do; And for providing contracts outside Guatecompras, but in Guatemala it is impossible to do that. In the OFAC we will have to demonstrate about these two specific cases.

I explained that in the first interview I had. At that moment I said it, I think they were more than 11 years of having a friendship with the former president. After that, they continued to link me in a lot of things and I didn’t even have a public office.
I tried to be as far as possible from the government until it was the issue of elections.
Is friendship still with the former president?
I maintain friendship with the former president, with the deputies, with the former ministers. When one leaves a government and the way I left, I obviously continued to keep friends with the people who were there.
And keep friendship with prosecutor Consuelo Porras?
No. It is more, I was the times that I had the honor to greet her was the times I found her publicly. I have never had direct communication.
If I were a friend of them – the MP – these cases would be closed. The case where I denounced the people who assaulted my family would not be stopped.
Do not confuse a relationship that was work with a friendship.

That is an issue that does not correspond to me to answer, but I think there may be a friendship after having had a employment relationship.

I remain part until they do the assembly again and have to choose.
