The Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) reported that, as a preventive measure, as of Monday, September 1, the emergency care of its hospital in Escuintla will temporarily transferred to Escuintla to the National Hospital of the same department. The decision was taken after receiving threats that would put the safety of patients, personnel and visitors at risk.

According to the official statement, the alert arose after a woman reported, last week, the disappearance of her newborn son within the IGSS Hospital facilities.

Although the case continues under investigation after the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) determined that the woman was not pregnant, the institution determined to strengthen security measures to possible acts that compromise the integrity of people and the functioning of the health center.

Among the provisions adopted is also the suspension of visits to hospitalized patients, until new notice.

The IGSS authorities guaranteed that medical care will continue normally for those who remain admitted, by assigning personnel in specific shifts.

“The safety of our affiliates and workers is a priority. Therefore, we take this measure while the facts are clarified and optimal conditions are restored,” the institution said in a message addressed to users.

In addition, he reiterated his commitment to collaborate with the authorities in charge of the case and thanked the population’s understanding.

The IGSS also urged citizens to remain informed only through their official channels, where any change will be announced regarding the restoration of services.
