This Thursday the teams from group C of the Concacaf qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup came into action, where Costa Rica continues without winning and added its third draw, this time against visiting Honduras (0-0).
The match between Nicaragua and Haiti was suspended for more than an hour due to heavy rain already a power outage in the capital stadium.
Haiti took a firm step towards the World Cup by reaching the lead of Group C with 5 points, followed by Honduras also with 5 points and third Costa Rica with three. Nicaragua, on the other hand, stagnates with a single unit and is on the brink of elimination.
The Nicaraguan team began by controlling the actions, while its rival opted for speed on the counterattack. In the 12th minute, a cross from Josué Casimir was badly rejected by goalkeeper Miguel Rodríguez and Duckens Nazon took advantage to establish the 0-1.
The match was stopped in the 29th minute due to a blackout caused by heavy rain that left the stadium without electricity. After more than an hour of suspension, the game resumed.
Haiti extended the lead in the 35th minute, when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde took a corner kick that was headed by Danley Jean Jacques.
Goalkeeper Rodríguez was once again a figure in the 63rd minute when he deflected a powerful shot from Bellegarde. Ten minutes later, Placide responded with a save against a new attempt by Hernández.
In the second minute added to regulation time, Deedson established the rout after a cross from Duke Lacroix for the final 0-3.
Tie in San Pedro Sula
Honduras and Costa Rica tied 0-0 this Thursday on the third date of the final phase of the Concacaf qualifier for the 2026 World Cup, a result that distances the Costa Rican team from the biggest soccer event.
The match played at the General Francisco Morazán Stadium, in San Pedro Sula, was rough and without great scoring opportunities, although the Costa Ricans looked harder for the rival goal.
Costa Rica, with six World Cup appearances, arrived in Honduras with the urgent need to show its stripes, after a poor start to the final phase, in which it tied with Nicaragua and Haiti. The match had Guatemalan Wálter López as the central referee.
