Seven armed attacks leave several dead; Jalapa registers double homicide of teenagers

Seven armed attacks recorded this Monday, April 13 in different regions of the country left at least seven dead, including two teenagers who died in an attack in the Jalapa municipal market, according to reports from relief bodies.

The most serious event occurred in the Esperanza neighborhood, in the Jalapa municipal market, where two teenagers, ages 16 and 14, died after an armed attack. Volunteer firefighters from company 44 treated four people with gunshot wounds and transported two of them to the National Hospital of Jalapa.

Local media reported that the number of victims could rise to four, because a man and a woman later died at the care center.

Other armed attacks were recorded in Fraijanes, Génova, Quetzaltenango, San Juan Sacatepéquez and Monjas, Jalapa, where dead people were reported on public roads or at the scene of the incident, according to Departmental Municipal Firefighters.

In Taxisco, Santa Rosa, a man was injured during an assault and was taken to the National Hospital of Escuintla, while in the capital’s zone 13, a 27-year-old man was taken to the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) with gunshot wounds.

Additionally, in Amatitlán the body of an unidentified person was located inside sacks, at kilometer 39 of the lake bypass.

In zone 8 of the capital, another armed incident left a man with a nervous breakdown, who was treated at the scene without needing to be transported.

Authorities from the National Civil Police (PNC) and the Public Ministry (MP) investigate the events to establish the causes and find those responsible.
