María “La Unstoppable” Micheo had a special appointment this Friday, April 24, in Guatemala. The Guatemalan boxer presented her book “One life, a thousand falls… and one decision: continue” in an event that brought together her followers and loved ones, with Marisol Rohesa by her side, who in addition to being her coach is her life partner, as she herself has described her on multiple occasions. The work reviews his sporting and personal career with a narrative focused on resilience, perseverance and faith in oneself.
Micheo took advantage of the presentation to talk about his roots and the purpose that has guided every step of his career. “I always knew I had a purpose, that I was born for something great”said the Guatemalan, who at 40 years old is very clear about her mission beyond boxing. “I came into the world to inspire and show that in life we are capable of whatever we set our minds to,” he expressed with conviction.
María thought about every detail, beyond the message expressed in words. The cover is an example of this. Micheo explained that he chose to appear with one eye covered in the front photo to convey a very particular message. “Many times in life we do not see all situations well, I have learned that I must always try to go further, see beyond,” he said about the meaning behind that image, which perfectly summarizes the philosophy of a work that does not seek to show perfection but rather the humanity behind an athlete who has fallen and gotten up more times than anyone could imagine.
“Goals are achieved through action”
Micheo also talked about the process of writing the book and what he learned along the way. “The first thing is that I learned to write well” he joked. “My book does not seek to show perfection. Missing a semicolon is not going to change the message I want to give”she stated with the naturalness that characterizes her, making it clear that her work is an authentic reflection of her life and not an idealized version of it.
For those who have doubted themselves throughout life, Micheo had direct advice. “My advice is not to give up and not really care what people say. Failure does not define you,” expressed the Guatemalan, who also shared one of the phrases that best summarizes her philosophy of life. “Goals are achieved through action”, he stated, remembering that behind every achievement there is work, discipline and decision.
“I never imagined fighting in those settings”
The presentation also had space to briefly talk about the recent fight against Natalie Dove at Madison Square Garden in New York. Micheo was honest about what she felt about the result. “This was a robbery, it was a very unfair robbery. But in the end a small door closed on me but a very huge door is opening for me. But as always in life trying to see everything positive,” stated the boxer, who also remembered the moment the result was announced. “When they gave the result, everyone booed. The presenter pulled me to greet the audience and they stopped to greet me,” he said.
Upon his arrival at Madison Square Garden, Micheo acknowledged that he never imagined going this far. “I never imagined fighting in those settings. Marisol was the one who encouraged me to fight in New York,” revealed about the fundamental role that her coach and life partner has played in the most important moments of her career. With the book presented and our eyes focused on what is to come, La Unstoppable continues to demonstrate that its story is far from over.
