The president of the Constitutional Court (CC), Anabella Morfinconvened its first plenary sessions at a key moment in the attorney general election process, in which different legal actions seek to influence the integration of the final payroll.

Among these actions is a protection that questions the candidates and that was scheduled to be known until Thursday the 23rd, three days after the scheduled date for the Nomination Commission to approve the list of six candidateswhich could directly impact the development of the process.

This movement adds to a context marked by complaints against commissioners and legal appeals that, according to members of the postulator, have generated pressure on the decisions of the process.

The secretary of the commission, Patricia Gamezwarned that the complaints filed by Ricardo Mendez Ruiz against commissioners constitute an act of coercion, considering that they attempt to influence evaluation and voting decisions.

Furthermore, the protections pending in the Constitutional Court could affect the evaluation criteria and the eligibility of some applicants, which keeps the final closure of the process uncertain, even when the commission has already concluded the qualification phase.

Legal actions

The actions arose in the midst of the debate about whether the experience as judge should be considered equivalent to professional practice as a lawyerone of the criteria to aspire to the position. That point generated differences between commissioners and is now under analysis in the CC.

Besides, Mendez Ruiz He also promoted an amparo against President Bernardo Arévalo, arguing a possible conflict of interest in the appointment of the next attorney general.

Analysts and observers of the process warn that these actions, presented in the middle of the qualification and prior to the final vote can put pressure on commissioners and affect the development of one of the decisive stages of the process.
