More than two months ago, on February 10, a mass shooting occurred in the community of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.
Sam Altman CEO of OpenAI, had promised British Columbia Premier David Eby and Mayor Darryl Krakowka that he would apologize to that community.
Investigations into the shooting are in the final stages, Eby said a day earlier, as published TumblerRidgeLinesa local media that also published the letter where Sam Altman apologizes to the Tumbler Ridge community.
Altman expresses in said document that he knows that the “pain of the community is unimaginable” and that he has thought a lot about them in recent months.
In part of the letter he offers his condolences:
“I want to express my deepest condolences to the entire community. No one should have to endure a tragedy like this. I can’t imagine anything worse in this world than losing a child. My heart goes out to the victims, their families, all members of the community and the province of British Columbia.”
He then offers his apology:
“I deeply regret not alerting authorities about the account that was blocked in June. While I know words are never enough, I believe an apology is necessary to acknowledge the harm and irreparable loss your community has suffered.”
The prime minister published the letter on his social networks:
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman issued an apology letter to the people of Tumbler Ridge. The apology is necessary, and yet grossly insufficient for the devastation done to the families of Tumbler Ridge. 1/2 https://t.co/bqHoqQ5j08
