The Nomination Commission for Attorney General and Head of the Public Ministry (MP) met this Tuesday, May 5, and approved the minutes of the previous session. In addition, he learned about the report of the payroll challenges and dealt with various matters.
The commissioners confirmed that there were no challenges to the list of six candidates and they agreed that the respective report will be sent to President Bernardo Arévalo, so they officially concluded the candidate election phase, Guatemala Visible reported.
On May 4, at 3:30 p.m., the deadline for the postulator to receive challenges ended; however, none were presented.
The attorney general election process is part of the second-degree elections and the designation of the next head of the MP is in the hands of President Bernardo Arévalo, who has already interviewed the six candidates.
Claudia Paredes, president of the postulator, indicated that the process was developed with objectivity, transparency and integrity, as required by this type of event and in accordance with the principle of legality.
He thanked the commissioners for being guarantors of each of the stages.
He reiterated that in the process the parameters mandated by the Constitution, the Law of Nomination Commissions and the internal regulations that the commission approved were complied with. Paredes indicated that this was the last session, unless there were any events in accordance with the law.
Who is on the payroll?
The list is made up of lawyers Julio César Rivera Clavería, Néctor Guilebaldo de León, Beyla Estrada Barrientos, Gabriel Estuardo García Luna, Carlos Alberto García Alvarado and César Augusto Ávila Aparicio.
After the interviews carried out with the candidates, the president will analyze the files of the six candidates.
As of May 1, the Constitutional Court accumulated at least 12 pending protections related to the process of appointing the new attorney general, a few days before President Arévalo makes the election.
