Arsenal arrives undefeated and PSG as champions to the final in Budapest

The end of the Champions League on May 30, at the Puskás Arena in Budapest, will face two teams with different styles: Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, undefeated in this edition, and Paris Saint-Germain, current champion and main favorite for the title.

The team led by Luis Enrique arrives as the number one candidate. His recent performance backs him up, especially after eliminating the Bayern Munich with a series that left a spectacular 5-4 in the first leg and a solid defensive performance in the second leg in Germany.

In addition, PSG defends the title it won last season, when it beat Inter Milan 5-0 in the final. Their path has been similar: an irregular initial phase, but notable growth in the elimination rounds until reaching the final again.

It will be the third final of Champions for the Parisian team and the second in a row. They are looking for their second title, after having lost their first final in the 2019-2020 season against Bayern Munich. This time, they also had their revenge against the German team in the semifinals.

Along the way, PSG eliminated Monaco (5-4 overall), Chelsea (8-2), Liverpool (4-0) and Bayern Munich (6-5), consolidating itself as the highest scoring team in the tournament with 44 goals (average of 2.75 per game), although it has also conceded 22 goals.

In total, they have ten wins, four draws and two losses in the competition. On the other side will be Arsenal, the strongest defensive team in the tournament. They have only conceded six goals in the entire competition (0.43 per game) and are the only unbeaten among the 36 teams that started the tournament.

The English team has eleven wins and three draws. They dominated the initial phase with eight wins and 24 points, and then advanced to the final by eliminating Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting de Portugal and Atlético de Madrid. For Arsenal it will be only the second Champions League final in its history. He lost the first in 2006.

Before the final, both teams also fight for their local leagues. In England, Arsenal leads the table with an advantage over Manchester City, while in France PSG also leads the standings, with a six-point difference over Lens with three games remaining.

Everything is ready for a final that promises: the highest scoring team against the most solid in defense, the current champion against the only undefeated team in the tournament.
