CC denounces threats and attacks against its president Annabella Morfín and other magistrates

The Constitutional Court (CC) published a statement in which it denounced threats against some magistrates and repudiated any form of intimidation.

He stressed that it is a permanent court of private jurisdiction whose essential function is the defense of the constitutional order.

He explained that it acts as a collegiate court, independent of other State agencies, and exercises specific functions assigned by the Constitution and the law on the matter.

“During the last few days, it has been noted with deep concern that various threats and attacks have been made against the presiding judge of this Court and other judges of this Court,” he stated.

He added: “All actions that seek to violate the principles that ensure the free and independent exercise of the jurisdictional function are strongly rejected, and a call is made to citizens and public and private actors to conduct themselves within a framework of respect, legality and democratic dialogue, repudiating any form of violence or intimidation.”

The CC assured that it reaffirms its commitment to ensuring constitutional order, by exercising its functions and complying with the provisions of the law.

The new magistracy of the CC took office at dawn on April 14, in the midst of legal actions related to the election process of one of its members, as reported on that occasion by the high court on its social networks.
