Julio Leonardo Alejandro Girón Castañedaidentified as the alleged ringleader in the kidnapping of dentist Julio Amílcar Martínez Murillo, is also investigated in other cases linked to robbery and theft of high-end vehicles.

The records detail that the accused allegedly leads a structure dedicated to vehicle robbery and theft, in addition to his involvement in the dentist’s case.
The MPE file 01202497174 states that Girón Castañeda is investigated for the crime of vehicle theft in events that occurred in 2024. According to the investigations, he would have rented luxury cars and then reported them as stolen.
The authorities consider that this mechanism was a facade, since the objective would have been to alter the chassis and engine numbers, change plates and subsequently sell the vehicles.
Another case, registered in the MPE file 01202491479, links it to the crime of aggravated theft, in events that occurred that same year against the owner of the vehicles he rented.
Months later, the National Civil Police (PNC) carried out an operation in Fraijanes, Guatemala. During the investigation, the agents stopped Girón Castañeda and, upon verifying the vehicle’s documents, established that it had a theft report.
For this fact, he was captured for the crime of concealment, since, according to investigations, he was driving a car that had been reported stolen. The case is registered in file MPW02020251405.
Other cases filed against Girón Castañeda
The MP detailed that there are two cases filed against Girón Castañeda: one for violence against women and another for vehicle theft in 2025. According to the files, there was not enough evidence to continue the criminal prosecution against him.
Furthermore, Girón Castañeda reported on two occasions to the MP that he had been a victim of extortion; However, both complaints were dismissed.
Relationship with the dentist
According to the investigation by the Public Ministry, Girón Castañeda had maintained a relationship of trust with Julio Amílcar Martínez Murillo for more than 12 years.
The investigations indicate that both were acquaintances and that this proximity would have facilitated the planning of the kidnapping, since the accused knew the routine, movements and activities of the dentist.

According to Dennis Cisneros, head of the Anti-Kidnapping Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Ministry (MP), the event occurred on May 28, 2025, when the dentist was intercepted.
That day, Martínez Murillo left his home, located on the route to El Salvador, heading to his clinic in El Jocotillo, Villa Canales. On the way, he made a stop at a shopping center. According to the investigation, at least three vehicles were following him.
After continuing its route, it would have been blocked after kilometer 38, in a desolate area. At that moment, he was on a call with his secretary, which was abruptly interrupted.
A day later, the alleged kidnappers contacted the dentist’s wife to demand payment of “5 quintals of corn,” according to telephone interceptions.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the real demand was Q5 million. Carlos Antonio González y González would have participated as an intermediary.
On June 5, 2025, the kidnappers agreed that the payment of Q763 thousand would be made in cash at a gas station at the end of Hincapié Avenue, zone 13.
