The First Division of Clausura 2026 already has its two finalistsSan Pedro and Suchitepéquez will define the tournament champion. Both return matches were played this Sunday, May 10, and left strong results that did not give rise to surprises in either bracket.
Sports San Pedro sealed its ticket to the final by beating Nueva Santa Rosa 1-0 at the Sampedrano Municipal Stadium with a goal from Steve Chacón, closing the series 2-1 on aggregate. The Shecanos will play their second consecutive final of the First Division and arrive with their promotion ticket to the National League already secured for having won this semifinal. Nueva Santa Rosa, which tied 1-1 in the first leg, could not reverse the result in the second leg and was eliminated although it retains the opportunity to fight for the second promotion ticket as champion of the Apertura 2025.
Suchitepéquez, for its part, had a much more dominant series by eliminating Chichicasteco with a 4-0 aggregate. The deer had won the first leg 3-0 with a double from Fabricio González and one more from Andrés Lezcano, and in the second leg they sealed the classification with a goal from Rogert Díaz in the 85th minute for the 1-0 that closed the series. Suchitepéquez’s classification is especially important because it secures a half ticket to the National League, with the possibility of completing it against Nueva Santa Rosa.
While San Pedro is already celebrating its guaranteed promotion, Suchitepéquez will seek to be crowned champion and will also fight for the second promotion to the National League in an independent match against Nueva Santa Rosa that will also follow the grand final of the tournament.
The Congress of the First Division League will meet this Monday, May 11, to define the dates and times of both the final between San Pedro and Suchitepéquez and the match for the second promotion ticket between the Venados and the Panaleros, in what promises to be decisive weeks for Guatemalan promotion soccer.
The team that finally promotes along with San Pedro FC will fill one of the two available spaces in the National League for next season, after the confirmation of the relegations of Achuapa and Mictlán at the end of Clausura 2026.
