A truck from the Municipality of San Francisco La Unión, Quetzaltenango, lost control and collided with a pick-up truck on a curve on the Inter-American highwaykilometer 101, on the afternoon of May 9, where two people died.

It was 12:37 p.m. when a trailer was traveling in the right lane and a Corinthian pickup truck was driving behind it, in the left lane; A truck-type vehicle followed, all heading west. However, a truck lost control on the route to Guatemala City, It crossed the flower bed and hit the pickaxe.
The agricultural vehicle executed a maneuver to avoid damage, while the truck dragged the pick-up truck and stopped when it got stuck in the ground.

The driver of the truck fled; meanwhile, the co-pilot died at the scene.
A A 13-year-old minor who was traveling in the pick-up truck also died.. The driver of said vehicle was guarded by the National Civil Police.
The Departmental Municipal Firefighters and the Volunteer Firefighters transferred four injured at the Tecpán Guatemala Hospital, Chimaltenango.
The crashed truck is painted with green and yellow stripes and bears the legend: “Municipality of San Francisco La Unión. Municipal Council 2024-2028.”
A relative of those affected by the picop explained that they were traveling in two vehicles. When they realized that those who were in the pick-up truck could not reach them, they returned and then realized the accident.
The arrested driver is grandfather of the deceased minor.

The Municipality of San Francisco La Unión published an obituary at 6:35 p.m. on May 9 for the death of a municipal worker in a “tragic accident while doing his job.” without detailing whether it is the same incident on the Inter-American route.
