Xelajú MC is in the final of Clausura 2026. Roberto Hernández’s Superchivos beat Comunicaciones 2-0 this Sunday at the Mario Camposeco Stadium in Quetzaltenango with goals from Jesús “Chucho” López in the 12th minute and Yair Jaén in the 73rd minute, closing the series with a 4-2 aggregate to advance to the grand final where they will face Municipal, who had already sealed their ticket after beating Mixco 7-0 overall.

The match started with Xelajú taking the initiative from the first minute and at the 12th minute the prize came. Jorge Aparicio launched a cross that found Chucho López in the center of the area to define the 1-0 that put the series 3-2 on aggregate in favor of the Superchivos. Comunicaciones tried to react in the second half with approaches from Vuletich, Lynner García and Stheven Robles that did not find a destination thanks to the interventions of Estuardo Chang between the three posts. At minute 73, Yair Jaén sealed the classification with a great goal for the final 2-0 that left the series 4-2 on aggregate and left the Cremas with no options.

The match was a reflection of the character of the Quetzaltecan team throughout the entire series. Xelajú took advantage of Mario Camposeco’s home team and the pressure of their fans to impose their game from the start, while Comunicaciones could not reverse the disadvantage despite their attempts in the second half.

Jorge Aparicio summarized the team’s performance with precise words. “We knew that at home we had to play our game, we found the goals at the right time. It was a group effort,” he stated.

Xelajú to the final against Municipal

With the classification confirmed, Xelajú MC will play the Clausura 2026 final against Municipal in what promises to be one of the most attractive duels in Guatemalan soccer in recent years. The Superchivos reach the final as leaders of the tournament with 39 points and with the confidence of having eliminated Comunicaciones in a series that they won with authority, while Municipal arrives as the most consistent team of the season in the accumulated table with 86 points.

The final will also have implications for the 2026 Central American Cup, where Guatemala’s fourth place will go to Xelajú MC after qualifying for the grand final of Clausura 2026. The draw for the regional tournament will be held on May 26 in Miami where Guatemala will be represented by Antigua GFC, Municipal, Mixco and Xelajú MC in what promises to be a historic participation for Chapín football in the most important Central American competition at the club level.
