Prensa Libre receives workshops on AI in editorial processes during a project promoted by Google News Initiative and Factual

In an increasingly hyperconnected world and given the need to better serve the interests of different audiences, the use of technological tools becomes essential in the journalistic profession.

Faced with this need, a group of journalists from Free press He received courses and talks on artificial intelligence as part of the Google News Initiative and Factual project.

For three days, in March 2026, journalists from Free press They received courses on the use of tools such as Pinpoint, NotebookLM, Google Trends and their AI functions.

In addition, the communicators explored in depth the use of these artificial intelligence tools and their application in different journalistic fields, such as transcription of texts, information ordering, creation of images, videos and infographics.

The workshops were led by Mexican journalist David García, who is part of the Latin American Network of Young Journalists of Factual/Distintas Latitudes, as well as the Latin American Network of Journalism in Digital Rights of Access Now.

Since 2022, Factual and Google News Initiative launched the Network of Trainers in Digital Tools, in order to promote technological learning in areas such as artificial intelligence in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

The project has provided courses in more than 400 media and universities in Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic, in order to enhance editorial flows with cutting-edge technologies.
