Three arrested in Retalhuleu after complaints of purchases with supposedly counterfeit bills

Three people were captured by investigators from the National Civil Police (PNC) in zone 4 of Retalhuleu, accused of using counterfeit bills to make purchases in different businesses in the sector.

The operation took place on the night of Wednesday, May 13, on 14th Avenue and 4th Street, Monterrey neighborhood, Retalhuleu, where agents from the Specialized Criminal Investigation Division captured Rodolfo “N”, 42 years old; Indres “N”, 39, and Yoselyn “N”, 37.

According to the police report, the action was developed following a citizen complaint that alerted about people who allegedly made purchases with counterfeit currency.

The authorities indicated that the accused tried to leave the scene aboard a red car; However, they were intercepted by investigators.

During the search, the agents located allegedly counterfeit bills totaling Q3,240 in different denominations. In addition, they seized four cell phones, which were packed by prosecutors from the Public Ministry to strengthen the investigation proceedings.

The PNC spokesperson in Retalhuleu, Elmer Miranda, explained that the procedure originated after receiving information about suspicious movements in businesses in the sector.

“They are being followed up as a result of a complaint indicating that several people were making purchases with counterfeit bills. At the time of identifying them and carrying out the corresponding registration, the counterfeit money was located in different denominations,” Miranda said.

The spokesperson added that the evidence was made available to the competent authorities to continue the investigation process. “Four cell phones were also seized and will be analyzed as part of the proceedings carried out by the Public Ministry to determine if there is a connection with other similar events,” he added.

The authorities continue with investigations to establish the origin of the allegedly counterfeit bills and determine if there are more people involved in this case.
