President Bernardo Arévalo reported that this Friday, May 15, he swore in Gabriel Estuardo García Luna as attorney general and head of the Public Ministry for the period 2026-2030.
“I wish you clarity, wisdom and unwavering ethics to serve the people of Guatemala with integrity,” added the president.
Arévalo took the oath of fidelity prescribed by article 154 of the Constitution of the Republic.
García Luna replaces Attorney General Consuelo Porras, who this Friday gave her last speech, a few hours after handing over the position.
García Luna was chosen by President Bernardo Arévalo, after the list made up of the nomination commission.
The newly appointed attorney general, on April 6, presented his work plan to the postulator, focused on independence, modernization and attention to victims.
The new administration in the investigative entity begins on Sunday, May 17 at 0 a.m., according to the new prosecutor’s team.
