The disappearance of Claudia Pamela Rivasregistered in November 2025 in Huité, Zacapa, led the Public Ministry (MP) and the National Civil Police (PNC) to open an investigation against the structure of Haroldo Lorenzana Terraza, alias Harolditoidentified by Guatemalan and United States authorities as the leader of a criminal drug trafficking network.
The investigations identify two possible lines of investigation related to that structure: the disappearance of Rivas and the death of other women in Zacapa.
Agents from the Specialized Criminal Investigation Division (DEIC) identified 31 properties linked to the criminal structure, including a home of a public official located in the village of La Pepesca, Río Hondo, Zacapa.
Of the 31 search procedures, only 30 were carried out, because a prosecutor from the MP warned the investigators that the house belonged to an official with immunity.
“By verbal order of the attorney from the Public Ministry, the property is not entered because it belongs to (…) a woman who enjoys immunity or has the right to pretrial,” the file details.
A judge authorized the raids on those homes and on a zoo, which authorities relate to the structure of the Lorenzanas.
Why were the Lorenzana houses in Zacapa raided?
The investigations indicate that Haroldito allegedly ordered his bodyguards to follow Rivas and kidnap her in retaliation for alleged mismanagement of the accounting area of the Municipality of Huité, Zacapa. Rivas served as financial director in the commune since January 2024.
This line of investigation led the authorities to search a municipal headquarters on April 13 in Huité and in properties where motorcycle taxi drivers operate. In these proceedings they seized five folders, two envelopes and a book with various documents.
In addition, a source from the MP who participated in the raids commented that the structure led by Haroldito Lorenzana is being investigated for the disappearance of other women in Zacapa.
Who were they identified in the Lorenzana homes?
According to the file, they identified more than 30 people, including minors. Those who were in the homes of the village of La Reforma, Huité, were relatives and bodyguards of Haroldito Lorenzana.
In one of the properties they identified Haroldito’s brother, who, according to official records, does not have a current arrest warrant.
According to the MP and Police database, the relative of the alleged drug trafficker “is solvent.” In another home in that same place, they identified the ringleader’s children and cousins.
In addition, they seized weapons and ammunition, located an arsenal and confiscated Q20 thousand.
