The expulsion of Jorge Aparicio completely changed the course of the first leg final of Clausura 2026 between Municipal and Xelajú MC. The super-chico midfielder left his team with ten players at the most decisive moment of the match and his departure ended up being the breaking point that definitively tipped the match in favor of the Reds.

Until before the red card, Xelajú competed as equals in El Trébol. The Quetzaltecan team had even taken the lead on the scoreboard with Raúl Calderón’s goal and kept alive its aspirations of getting a positive result as a visitor in a series that seemed to remain open.

Aparicio was already playing conditioned from the start of the match. The superchido player received his first yellow card in the first minute of the game and that warning ended up weighing on an intense and disputed final against Municipal. At minute 67 he committed a foul on Rudy Muñoz, saw the second yellow card and left the Superchivos with ten players at the most critical moment of the duel.

The action also caused tension on the field of play. While Aparicio was leaving the field, a fight broke out between players from both teams and Municipal goalkeeper, Braulio Linares, was also reprimanded for his exchange of words with Aparicio.

The red that opened the way to the victory

The departure of Jorge Aparicio left an important void in Xelajú’s midfield and Municipal immediately took advantage of the confusion of the superchivo team. From the expulsion, the Reds took full control of the match, advancing lines and finding more spaces against an opponent emotionally beaten and forced to retreat to try to resist in El Trébol.

The impact of the red card was immediate. Just seconds after the foul, Cristian Hernández scored 2-1 on a free kick and that goal ended up defeating the Superchivos. From that moment on, Municipal dominated the closing stages of the game and scored three more goals after Aparicio was sent off, turning an even duel into a 4-1 win in the first leg of the Clausura 2026 final.

In addition to the emotional and sporting blow that the expulsion represented, the absence of Jorge Aparicio weighs on the return match at the Mario Camposeco stadium. The super-chivo midfielder is one of the leaders and most experienced players on the squad, so his loss forces Xelajú to rethink its scheme in the most important match of the season.
