Banguat reveals circulation date and how the commemorative edition can be obtained

He Bank of Guatemala (Banguat) has announced this May 18 the issuance of a new Q100 commemorative ticketdesigned to celebrate the 80 years of foundation of central banking in the country.

Alvaro González Riccipresident of Banguathas indicated that the new piece will begin to circulate from next May 25 and will be legal tender throughout the national territory.

González commented that this is the third commemorative note issued in the history of the Guatemalan central bank and seeks to highlight the role of the Bank of Guatemala in the execution of the country’s monetary, exchange and credit policy.

This will be the circulation of the new bill

The president of the bank has indicated that the distribution method will be the same used with previous issues. The central entity will deliver the tickets to the system banksaccording to the demand they request.

Subsequently, each bank will decide which agencies will send the new copies and in what quantities they will be distributed in the different regions of the country.

The authorities indicated that the commemorative banknotes will circulate along with the other denominations without any restrictions on making payments or transactions.

Production of 15 million Q100 commemorative banknotes

Álvaro González Ricci has detailed that the Bank of Guatemala has requested the printing of 15 million commemorative Q100 billswhich will represent a total emission of Q1 thousand 500 million in the national economy.

The printing was carried out by the Polish company Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych Spólka Akcyjnaand the bills were made with 100% cotton fibers.

The authorities called on the population to keep the banknotes clean and in good condition, in order to preserve their durability and security.

Design with historical elements and new security measures

On the obverse of the new bill the image of the bishop and licentiate stands out Francisco Marroquínrecognized for his defense of indigenous peoples and for promoting education in Guatemala. The effigy appears on a representation of the building of the Bank of Guatemala.

The design also incorporates the figure of the quetzalinspired by the first Q100 bill issued by the institution.

Among the security measures, a thread stands out with three windows that show the number 100 in Arabic and Mayan numerals, in addition to the work “Indio de Nahualá” and a microtext with the phrase: “EL QUETZAL IS PRIDE, TRUST AND FUTURE FOR GUATEMALA.”

In addition, the banknote includes a high-definition watermark based on the same artistic work.
