Talk about CSD Municipal is to go back 90 years in time and remember how a group of municipal workersdriven solely by the love of football, sowed the seed of what would end up becoming one of the largest, most successful and emblematic football clubs in Guatemala and the region.
He May 17, 1936 an institution was born that, as the decades passed, would transcend generations and write indelible pages in sports history.
The first official match was played on March 6, 1938, against the Bronte team. It was the beginning of a historical journey marked by greatness, passion and an identity that turned red into a symbol of struggle and glory.
Throughout its history, great footballers built that legacy. One of the most notable names is that of Manuel Felipe Carrera, absolute icon of the institutionappears as a player and then as a coach. He won three league titles and left a legacy so deep that the scarlet stadium is named after him.

At the international level, the peak came with the direction of the Uruguayan Rubén Amorín Matos, who led the club to the historic Concacaf title, in 1974the greatest regional achievement achieved by a Guatemalan team, driven by the decisive goals of José Emilio Mitrovich.
Decades later, the greatness continued from the bench. Horacio Cordero won four titles and consolidated a memorable era, while Enzo Trossero became the club’s most successful coachby winning five consecutive championships, a historic mark.
At his side shone the maximum red legend: Juan Carlos Plata, eternal scorer with 376 entries between 1989 and 2010.
Today, with 32 league titles, an exemplary structure of youth training and strengthened management from Ernesto Villa to Gerardo Villa, Municipal celebrates 90 years of glory. And what better way to do it than to dream of a new championship and reaffirm that red not only made history, but continues to write it.
