PNC confirms armed attack against Chinautla councilor and mayoral candidate

The National Civil Police (PNC) reported that at 7:45 a.m. this Friday, May 22, police personnel showed up at kilometer 11.5 of the route to San Pedro Ayampuc, La Laguneta village, zone 18, where they located a vehicle with bullet holes.

According to the police report, Rony Orlando González Cabrera, 39, appeared at the scene and stated that moments before he was driving in his silver truck, model 2011, when two men who looked like gang members, who were traveling on a motorcycle, intercepted him and, without saying a word, shot at the vehicle.

As a result of the attack, the truck was left with three gunshot holes in the driver’s door. The victim was not injured.

According to the report, during the incident the motorcycle rider lost control and skidded on the asphalt strip.

Subsequently, the alleged perpetrators fled on foot and left behind a motorcycle with plates M-582MPJ, black with multicolor stripes, model 2026.

On the side of the motorcycle they located an Aselkon brand pistol, black, with registration TJ039-23A00179, allegedly used to fire the shots, the PNC added.

The Volunteer Firefighters reported that they provided pre-hospital care at the scene to Brenda Granados, councilor of Chinautla.

No shell casings were found at the scene. The PNC added that they coordinated the presence of the corresponding units to continue with the proceedings.

Rony Orlando González Cabrera, candidate for mayor of Chinautla for the Unionist party, told Free press that they were summoned to a Council session in zone 18 and that the attack occurred when they were returning from the meeting.

According to González Cabrera, the hitmen were already waiting for them and he and the councilor were not injured because the vehicle is armored.

He presumes that the motive for the attack is due to political rivalries with some members of the Council.
