The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) reported that this Thursday, June 11, tropical depression Cristina lost intensity and was degraded.

He added that the remnants of the system, now converted into a low pressure system, will cross Guatemala towards the Gulf of Mexico.

The passage of the remnants of Cristina through Guatemala will continue to leave abundant rains, drizzles and electrical activity throughout the country this Thursday and Friday.

The highest rainfall accumulations are expected in the regions of the Oriente valleys, the bocacosta and the Pacific.

Precipitation is also expected in the central highlands, the west, Petén and Izabal.

Cristina has caused rain in the national territory and in some sectors flooding has been reported.

The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) recommended that national, departmental and municipal authorities strengthen monitoring of areas susceptible to landslides and floods.

Likewise, it recommended strengthening the dissemination of preventive information about the risks associated with rising river levels, floods and landslides.

He also asked to verify and socialize response plans, evacuation routes and safe areas.

In addition, he urged to coordinate prevention, preparation and response actions with the institutions that make up the Conred System.

The entity also recommended addressing the suggestions provided by the departmental delegates of the Conred regarding the possible effects of the system in the country.
