Kevin Manolo Rivas Cordón, sentenced to 70 years in prison for the kidnapping and murder of his cousin Litzy Amelia Cordón Guardado, must pay Q1.3 million as dignified reparation to the victim’s relatives.
The resolution was issued this Monday, June 15, by the High Risk Court B during the dignified reparation hearing held for the case.
In addition to the financial payment, the judges ordered that the convicted person publish the sentence in the official newspaper and place a commemorative plaque at the place where the events occurred, in Teculután, Zacapa, as a measure of reparation and memory for the victim.
The sentence was handed down on June 10, when the High Risk Court B found Rivas Cordón guilty of the murder and kidnapping or kidnapping of Litzy Cordón. The judges imposed 35 years in prison for each crime, for a total of 70 years in prison.
According to the ruling, documentary, testimonial and technological evidence made it possible to reconstruct the events that occurred before and after the disappearance of the young university student.
The judges highlighted that, after Litzy’s disappearance, family members and acquaintances tried to communicate with her without receiving a response. Likewise, telephone analyzes made it possible to establish relevant information about the use of lines and devices linked to the case.
The ruling was issued almost five years after the crime that occurred in Teculután, Zacapa. According to the investigation by the Public Ministry, Litzy Cordón, 20 years old and a Social Work student at the Rafael Landívar University, was kidnapped on October 5, 2020.
A day later, around 6:30 a.m., his body was located in the Los Pasitos hamlet, Los Puentes community, Teculután.
The National Institute of Forensic Sciences determined that the young woman died of asphyxiation due to strangulation and established that she had blows, signs of physical violence and sexual assault.
