The National Civil Police (PNC) captured this Thursday, June 18, a man accused of participating in the armed attack against Dreysi Fabiola de León Robledo, 34 years old, who died days after being shot in front of her children as she left her home in Quetzaltenango.
The arrest was carried out during a coordinated raid between investigators from the Femicide Section of the Specialized Criminal Investigation Division (DEIC) and prosecutors from the Public Ministry (MP) in a property located in zone 4 of Quetzaltenango.
The captured person was identified by the authorities as Edwin “S”, 38 years old, who is identified as the alleged perpetrator of the attack that occurred on February 11, 2026.
Auner Hernández, spokesperson for the Western PNC, reported that the capture is the result of several weeks of analyzing evidence and following up on different lines of investigation related to the case.
According to Hernández, investigators have identified other people who could be linked to the crime, so it is not ruled out that new operations and arrests will be carried out in the coming hours.
Attack in front of his children
According to the investigation, Dreysi Fabiola de León Robledo was attacked by gunfire when she was leaving her home, located in the El Pedregal neighborhood, zone 10 of Quetzaltenango.
The woman was preparing to take her children to school when she was intercepted by two men who were traveling on a motorcycle. The attackers shot him repeatedly and then fled the scene.
Neighbors alerted the emergency services, who took the victim to a care center. However, due to the severity of her injuries, she remained in intensive care for several days.
Doctors confirmed that one of the projectiles hit the woman’s head, injury that finally caused his death on February 25.
The attack occurred in the presence of his children, an event that caused consternation among neighbors and relatives of the victim.
Possible mobile
Initial investigations suggest that the attack could be related to personal conflicts arising from a divorce process.
The authorities reported at the time that one of the hypotheses analyzed is linked to a recent divorce request, the separation of assets and the dispute over custody of the couple’s children.
However, both the PNC and the Public Ministry have indicated that this line of investigation continues to be analyzed and that it will be the investigative process that will determine with certainty the motive for the crime and the degree of participation of each of the people involved.
Research continues
The authorities indicated that the case remains under investigation and that the capture of the alleged attacker is one of the first results obtained by the teams in charge of clarifying the incident.
Investigators are collecting statements, video surveillance records, telephone analysis and other evidence to establish how the attack was planned and who participated in it.
The Public Ministry has not revealed further details so as not to compromise the ongoing proceedings.
