Monetary Board authorizes banking agencies to close on Friday, June 26 and Monday, June 29

The Superintendency of Banks (SIB) reported that the Monetary Board authorized that banks, banking branches and agencies, financial companies, insurance companies, storage companies, exchange houses and microfinance institutions can close on Monday, June 29, a holiday that corresponds to June 30 and is moved to that day.

In addition, he authorized that the banking system can close on Friday, June 26, holiday for Bank Employee Day (corresponding to July 1).

Likewise, the SIB reported that it is at the discretion of each entity to provide its services through an agency, special window or similar.

The SIB offices will also be closed on Friday, June 26 and Monday, June 29.

The list of banking agencies that will provide special service during the holiday can be consulted, starting Thursday, June 25, on the website www.sib.gob.gt.

The June 30 holiday, recognized as Army Day in Guatemala, will generate a long weekend in 2026.

In 2018, Congress approved a reform to the Law that Promotes Domestic Tourism, Decree 19-2018so that three holidays could be extended by moving them to Monday or Friday.

However, it is worth remembering that, as of April 16, 2020, the Constitutional Court annulled the provision that allowed the holidays of May 1 and October 20 to be moved, so only June 30 can be moved.
