“Let’s go for a region of readers” is the premise of this activity, which will bring together more than 40 authors, illustrators, researchers and international experts to reflect on the role of children’s and youth literature in the formation of new generations of readers.
The meeting will be held from July 4 to 6 and will serve as a space for professional exchange between specialists who seek to analyze and share experiences to strengthen interest in reading among children and youth.
The activity will bring together authors, illustrators, researchers and other actors from Central America, Mexico, Spain, Argentina and Colombia, who will analyze the challenges and opportunities of children’s and youth literature, essential for the development of imagination, critical thinking and other skills.
According to a statement, the meeting will address issues such as cultural identity, training of readers and promotion of reading. In addition, it will have specialized workshops aimed at authors, illustrators, teachers and reading mediators, since the training of readers also depends on the commitment of these sectors.
The activity is aimed at authors, designers, illustrators, booksellers, representatives of educational institutions, librarians and cultural managers, who will be able to participate in specialized workshops and talks.
Among the scheduled workshops are those taught by David Lozano; Jorge Gonzalvo, from Spain; Carola Díez, from Mexico, and Mariana Ruiz-Johnson, from Argentina.
Speakers will also participate who will address academic, creative and social aspects related to the promotion of reading among new generations, including the Costa Rican academic Carlos Rubio, the Mexican poet Nadia López and the Panamanian author Evelyn Lozano.
“For three days we will explore the voices, stories and strategies that seek to transform the panorama of books for children in the region,” said César Medina, president of the Guild Association of Publishers of Guatemala and Filgua.
