PNC reinforces security for long weekend and payment of Bono 14 in Guatemala

The National Civil Police (PNC) will implement a special security plan for the long weekend, derived from the transfer of the Army Day holiday to Monday, June 29, and for the next payment of Bonus 14reported Esvin Gaspar Jacinto Quiché, deputy director of Operations of the PNC.

He explained that the operation will begin on Thursday and will have the support of a thousand additional agents, who will be deployed in areas where the institution has identified a higher incidence of homicides, assaults and robberies, as well as in places with a high influx of people.

“As of Thursday we are working with extraordinary human talent, which is close to a thousand, who will be supporting us in the areas where we have identified some problems in relation to homicides, assaults and robberies. And in this way they will be covering different places of influx of people,” he stated.

According to Jacinto Quiché, the extraordinary personnel will join the 75% of agents who already work ordinary shifts.

“We have approximately 75% of the total National Civil Police normally working in shifts of eight hours by eight hours. Well, in addition to that, we are going to have a thousand more police colleagues from the Analysis, Anti-Narcotics and Criminal Investigation Subdirectorate so that they can help us in this, anticipating the long weekend for June 30. That is to say, we are already anticipating that there will be quite an influx of people to different places,” he indicated.

In addition to the operation for the extended rest, the PNC will activate the security plan for the payment of Bonus 14, which will be carried out in two phases: from July 1 to 12 and from July 12 to 17.

“In relation to the Bono 14 plan, like every year, we already have the plan that consists of two phases. The first phase starts from July 1st to July 12th. From July 12th to the 17th we have also already contemplated a second phase. Each one has its own patrol modalities in shopping centers, at ATMs, in markets, in playgrounds and in all places where Guatemalan citizens go to make some type of purchase or some recreational activity,” he explained.

As part of both plans, the institution will install checkpoints and carry out road operations with support from territorial units and the Traffic Department.

“We will also be carrying out the different operations and checkpoints. On the one hand, the operational units of the sectors and, on the other hand, the Traffic Department with its specific issue to verify that motorists comply with the legal documentation and we, on behalf of the territorial units, try to avoid the mobilization of people with some type of crime on the roads or in some streets, some avenues of different cities,” he noted.

Regarding the personnel that will participate in the operations, Jacinto Quiché indicated that the General Directorate of the PNC is still analyzing whether it will temporarily reinstate agents who are on vacation or if it will work with all the available personnel.

“At the moment we have two alternatives. The first alternative is to work with the staff who are on vacation. We have a good number of staff on vacation. And the second option is to work with 100%. This is something that we are still defining with the director and these days he has already defined the plan that we are going to use,” he concluded.
