Two large earthquakes shook Venezuela on Wednesday, June 24, and have left hundreds injured, homeless and missing. In the face of the emergency, artists such as Danny Ocean, Ricky Martin, Ricardo Montaner, Mau y Ricky, among others, expressed their solidarity with the Venezuelan people.
On Wednesday, Venezuela was shaken by two earthquakes that, according to authorities, reached magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5. In addition, they reported that in the last few hours at least 30 aftershocks have been recorded that continue to affect the country.
Reports from the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, indicate that, as of this Thursday, the earthquakes have left at least 164 dead and 971 injured, while the number of victims continues to increase.
Due to the collapse of buildings, the loss of homes and evacuations, countries such as Spain, the United States and Mexico extended their support. Likewise, international artists have sent messages of solidarity and put their social networks at the service of those affected.
The emergency has also mobilized public figures, who have turned social networks into search and dissemination centers to help those trying to locate their relatives. One of the first figures to speak out was the Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin, who shared a message of solidarity with Venezuelans.
“My dear people of Caracas and all the Venezuelan people, today the world looks at you with concern, but also with immense affection. My thoughts are with every citizen, with every rescuer and with every family waiting for a hug, news or a miracle. May hope be stronger than pain, my people. All my solidarity and my love for you,” expressed the singer.
In the midst of the state of national emergency, Venezuelan entertainment figures also spoke out in support of their compatriots and put their social networks at the service of the affected families. One of them was the singer and composer Carlos Baute, who offered his platforms to disseminate information and help locate missing people.
“Today my networks are fully available to send information of any kind,” he highlighted. In addition, he shared images of the damage accompanied by the message: “How great sadness. People of Caracas and all of Venezuela, a lot of strength. If anyone needs to locate a person or has any need, comment and I will publish it in my stories.”
Venezuelan Danny Ocean also started a support campaign on social networks to share information about people taken to hospitals and help those seeking to contact their relatives. Through Instagram he wrote: “Places that need immediate assistance, shout out in the comments!”
Likewise, he made a call: “People who are willing to collaborate, come and support whatever is needed. Coordinate in the comments. This publication is only for people in Venezuela. I leave this post in case you need to shout out and for groups that are active collaborating.”
Subsequently, he shared information about people admitted to hospitals and published in his stories photographs of children seeking to locate their relatives after being affected by the earthquakes.
This initiative was joined by content creator Lele Pons, who replicated Danny Ocean’s publication and shared messages of help from people in Venezuela.
Another of the figures who spoke out were the kings of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, William Alexander and Máxima, who shared the following message on their account:
“Our neighboring country of Venezuela has been shaken by devastating earthquakes. Our thoughts are with all those affected and with the families who today mourn or live in anguish for their loved ones.”
The singers Mau and Ricky also shared on their social networks that they are praying for Venezuela and expressed their solidarity with the affected people.
