At least 17 people were injured after a automobile attacked a crowd that celebrated the Mexico classification to the first round of direct elimination of the Soccer World Cup 2026in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur (northwest of Mexico), according to local authorities.
The incident occurred on the night of Wednesdaywhen a driver ran over a group of people occupying a street while celebrating the victory.
According to the first reports, the vehicle was stopped among the crowd and the driver was arrested.
He Los Cabos City Council reported in a statement that 17 peopleincluding the driverthey received medical attention and were transferred to different hospitals in the area.
“The unit was surrounded by a group of people and, due to circumstances that will be determined by the competent authority, walked through the crowdcausing injuries to several people,” the authority detailed.
He added that the driver was under custody of ministerial authoritywhile investigations began to clarify what happened.
Likewise, he indicated that the emergency protocols and that security personnel, firefighters, civil protection and medical services went to the scene to care for the injured.
The acting municipal president of Los CabosJosé Manuel Larumbe Pineda, expressed his “deep solidarity” with the affected people and stated that they will be provided with the necessary support.
Finally, the official pointed out that the municipal government will report as authorities confirm new information about the case.
The incident occurred in the middle of the celebrations that lasted throughout the night in different cities of Mexicowhere thousands of fans they took to the streets to celebrate the classification of the national team to the round of 32 World Cup final.
