One of the most anticipated releases of 2026 is director Christopher Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey, an adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey. Oscar winner Anne Hathaway is one of the leading figures in this production and revealed how motherhood influenced her interpretation of Penelope.
The actress, who this year has several premieres, including The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Mother Mary, explained that being a mother helped her build her character in Nolan’s production.
During the red carpet he revealed that, when building Penelope, he managed to connect with his own experiences, mainly with the protective instinct that characterizes the character. “I’m a bit like a mama bear. Nothing comes between me and my cubs.”
As compiled by Infobae, Hathaway explained that this feeling helped her interpret Penelope’s emotions when protecting her son Telemachus (Tom Holland) during the absence of her husband, Odysseus (Matt Damon).
Analyzing the circumstances that Penelope is going through allowed her to understand a deeply protective side, with which she could identify from her own experience as a mother.
In the story, Penelope awaits the return of Odysseus, who, after establishing himself as a hero during the war, undertakes the journey back to Ithaca to recover his throne. However, he must face mythological creatures, dangerous seas, gods, mermaids and natural phenomena that delay his arrival.
Meanwhile, Penelope faces the challenge of protecting Telemachus and resisting pressure from numerous suitors, including Antinous, who seeks to seize the throne of Ithaca.
Maternity
Anne Hathaway is the mother of Jonathan, 10, and Jack, six, from her marriage to actor and jewelry designer Adam Shulman. On June 19, the actress shared that she is expecting her third child.
Infobae highlighted that Hathaway was enthusiastic about this new stage in her life, in which she combines various film premieres with the expectation of her third child.
“I’m at an age and at a point in my career where I know that things like this don’t happen very often and they certainly don’t last forever. So I’m going to take advantage of this time while it lasts.”
