During 2025, Walmart Central America made investments aimed at expanding stores, modernizing infrastructure and strengthening its logistics, technological and sustainable ecosystem.
Among the main milestones of the period are: the opening of 24 new stores in the Walmart Supercenter, Bodegas and Discounts formats. In addition, the Perishable Distribution Center was launched in Costa Rica, considered the largest of its type in the region, and accompanied by advances in operational innovation and process digitalization.
With a workforce of more than 37 thousand associates, Walmart remains one of the main employers in Central America. Last year, more than 6,800 internal promotions were made. Likewise, the company strengthened its supply network with more than 1,000 new suppliers, boosting regional economic growth.
Through our Una Mano para Crecer and Tierra Fértil programs, Walmart supported 540 manufacturing SMEs and 619 Central American agricultural producers.
“This year’s results reflect our commitment to creating sustainable value for our clients, associates and communities, promoting the economic and social development of Central America,” said Marco Murillo, Sustainability Manager.

Social impact and support for communities
As part of its commitment to communities, Walmart Central America reported that in 2025 it donated more than 6,600 tons of products, including fruits and vegetables, as well as expanded categories such as pet food, dairy products, frozen foods, eggs, cheese, sausages, pizzas and pre-cooked products that represent $14 million, benefiting 624 thousand vulnerable people.
This effort is part of the company’s strategy to combat hunger and reduce food waste, through the recovery of products suitable for consumption and donation in its stores, production plants and distribution centers throughout Central America.
Likewise, the company carried out more than 50 volunteer initiatives with the participation of more than 1,200 associates. These actions contribute to its goal of zero waste and strengthen social well-being in the region.
Progress towards a more sustainable operation
In environmental matters, Walmart continues to lead the transition towards cleaner and regenerative operations, 77.7% of the electricity used comes from renewable sources and 7.2% of its electricity consumption is self-generated through solar panels.
Additionally, 59.3% of private label packaging is recyclable, reusable or compostable and contains 5.3% post-consumer recovered recycled resins (PCR). 73.7% of waste was recovered and diverted from being sent to landfills.
Walmart Central America also highlighted key achievements in work culture, highlighting that 337 stores reached the goal of zero accidents and more than 12,100 associates were trained in sustainable practices. These results reflect the company’s commitment to safety, inclusion and talent development.
