Next Sunday, April 13, the day that marks the beginning of Holy Week is held: Ramos Sunday.
This day commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. According to the biblical story, Jesus and his disciples approached the city to celebrate Jewish Easter. Upon arriving near the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples to a nearby village with specific instructions: he told them that they would find an ass -binded ass along with a chick (a young donkey) that no one had mounted.
He told them to unleash and take them, and that if someone asked them, they should answer: “The Lord needs them.”
The disciples did what Jesus asked and brought the donkey and chick. Jesus set up the chick, thus fulfilling the prophecy of Zacharias 9: 9, which says:
“Behold, your king comes to you, tame and sitting on a donkey, on a chick, son of cargo beast.”
While Jesus entered Jerusalem mounted on chick, a great crowd received him with joy. Many extended their mantles along the way, while others cut branches of palm trees and placed them in front of it as a sign of honor and reverence. People shouted:
“Hosanna to the son of David! Blessed who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the heights!”
What is the importance of Palm Sunday?
