The projections of the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) indicate that The extreme heat will impact several departments of the country During the weekend, so they call on the population to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun’s rays.
According to Insivumeh, between March 14 and 17, temperatures will reach medium and high levels of impact. In this last category, it is estimated that they could reach up to 40 degrees.
In the high impact category are Petén, the cross strip of the north, Izabal, Zacapa, Escuintla and Suchitepéquez, where maximum temperatures of between 37 and 40 degrees are expected.
In those departments, Insivumeh recommends avoiding, if possible, Outdoor exposure between 10 am and 4 pm, since it is the period of greater solar intensity.
In the medium impact category, regions of the Northern Transversal Strip, Izabal, El Progreso, Zacapa, Chiquimula, Jutiapa, Jalapa, the north of Guatemala and the Pacific Region are located, where maximum temperatures of between 32 and 36 degrees are foreseen.
In those areas it is also advisable to avoid Prolonged exposure to the sun between 10.00 and 4:00 pm.
Low temperatures
Contrary to what will be lived in much of the country, some departments will experience low temperatures at certain times.
The Insivumeh details that, in the medium impact areas, there will be very cold conditions during the night and early morning, which can affect the health of people and animals, as well as damage sensitive crops.
The low temperatures will be recorded mainly in Huehuetenango, northern San Marcos, northern Quetzaltenango, southern Totonicapán and the areas of water volcanoes, Santa María de Jesús and Acatenango, in Chimaltenango.
Likewise, the Insivumeh warns of a cold thermal sensation during the night and early in Huehuetenango, San Marcos, Quetzaltenango, Totonicapán, Sololá and Chimaltenango, especially in Tecpán Guatemala.
