The instability of the ground compromises the safety of motorists, which is why the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) maintains the total closure of the pass, due to new landslides that make it difficult to clean the lanes of km 24.5 of the highway to El Salvador, covered by between 2 and 10 meters of material.

Five days have passed since the landslide that occurred on Monday, October 6 at 3:35 a.m., at km 24.5 of said route, where the authorities keep the vehicular passage closed due to the high risk posed by the instability of the terrain.

According to Conred, there is still no defined date for the reopening of the road, since the work and evaluations depend on weather conditions and constant monitoring of the affected area.

“For the moment, the recommendation is to take alternate routes. As soon as there is information about the authorization of the passage, it will be made public knowledge,” said Valeria Urízar, spokesperson for Conred.

The authorities reiterate that the priority is to protect the safety of motorists, while technical inspections continue to determine the real impact of the landslide and the necessary measures before restoring traffic through the sector.

At the scene, lifeguards are searching for a man reported missing, supported by canine units. However, the persistence of the rains makes the work of the dogs that make up the rescue teams difficult.
