Guatemala is marked by the celebration of Holy Week, a moment that, between carpets of sawdust, funeral marches and clouds of incense, marks the journey of Catholic devotion in the different processions. Part of this liturgical commemoration honors Jesus on Holy Saturday, awaiting his resurrection.
This April 4, Guatemala will enter the penultimate day of the celebration, which due to its cultural and traditional value was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
On Holy Saturday, places such as Guatemala City and Antigua Guatemala will be filled with expressions of faith, devotion and gratitude, with tours of various images of the Virgin Mary, showing sorrow for the death of her son, as well as Jesus.
From children to adults, they will carry the different processions on their shoulders, in remembrance of the Easter triduum, which, with faith, leads to the resurrection of Jesus. These are the processions planned for this Glory Saturday, which will tour the Historic Center and the colonial city.
