Paramount Pictures confirmed that it is working on the production of “Top Gun 3” and will feature the return of Tom Cruise and the participation of Jerry Bruckheimer, responsible for the two previous installments.
The announcement was made during CinemaCon 2026, held this Thursday, April 16, 2026 in Las Vegas, by the studio’s co-directors, Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg.
“Top Gun 3 is officially in development with a fairly advanced script, reuniting Tom Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer,” the co-directors said.according to a publication by The Hollywood Reporter.
The script began to be worked on in 2024, by Ehren Kruger, who also participated in the second film and, as announced, already presents important progress. Besides, The new production could reunite part of the recent cast, with actors such as Miles Teller and Glen Powell.
The Top Gun saga, one of Paramount’s most successful franchises, debuted with Top Gun: Air Idols in 1986with the story of Pete Mitchell, also known as Maverick, a talented and challenging aviator in the US Navy, played by Tom Cruise.
More than 30 years later, the second film was released, Top Gun: Maverickwhich hit theaters in 2022 to resume the story of the aviatornow as an instructor for younger pilots, on a high-risk mission and with personal conflicts from the past.
