US Embassy makes Jorgan Andrews official as Chargé d’Affaires in Guatemala and shares his profile

The United States Embassy in Guatemala made official this Tuesday, April 21, the appointment of Jorgan K. Andrews as chargé d’affaires in Guatemala.

The diplomatic headquarters highlighted that Andrews has more than 30 years of diplomatic career and extensive experience in countries in Latin America, Asia and Europe, as well as in the National Security Council.

“He joins our embassy to strengthen our relationship with Guatemala and advance Trump’s priorities,” he noted.

Jorgan K. Andrews replaces John Barrett as chargé d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala. Barrett was assigned to the diplomatic headquarters in Venezuela.

According to information from the embassy, ​​Jorgan K. Andrews is a senior Foreign Service officer of the United States Department of State, with extensive experience in diplomacy and national security.

Andrews previously worked as Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy in New Delhi, India.

In his role as Deputy Undersecretary of Counternarcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) from 2018 to 2021, he oversaw assistance programs for the justice and security sectors in Europe and Asia.

From 2016 to 2018, he served as director of the Office of Eastern European Affairs in the Department of European and Eurasian Affairs. Prior to that, he directed two of INL’s largest programs in Colombia and Mexico.

He also served in the South and Central Asia Directorate of the National Security Council, in addition to assignments in Kazakhstan, Guatemala and Russia.

He has a bachelor’s degree in Law and a master’s degree in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia; a master’s degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College, and a bachelor’s degree in Russian Language and International Affairs from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Andrews is a former Colorado lawyer. He speaks Spanish, Russian and a little Ukrainian.
