Harold Yeraldo Salguero Morales, alias “Liro Rebelde”, a member of the “Solo para locos” clique, from Barrio 18, will face a second trial against him, after the Villa Nueva Court decided to link him to criminal proceedings for three crimes.

The judiciary resolved that Salguero Morales faces criminal proceedings for illicit association, terrorism and attempted murder. The Public Ministry (MP) was given a period of three months to expand the investigation. The mid-stage hearing was scheduled for August 5.

According to the MP’s accusation, the accused is one of those responsible for shooting at PNC agents in an event that occurred in Bárcenas, Villa Nueva, where a police officer was injured.

Among the evidence presented by the Public Ministry is a cell phone confiscated from the detainee, in which chats show communications with his cohabitant, with whom he has a conversation about the events.

In addition, videos show the moment in which the alleged gang member burns clothing that he would have used during the attack. Another indication is the location of the vehicle that would have been used, which was abandoned at kilometer 26, jurisdiction of San Lucas Sacatepéquez.

Salguero Morales was captured in zone 21 during a police operation, in which a gun and drugs were confiscated.

Facts

More than three months have passed since simultaneous attacks against PNC agents occurred, in retaliation for the actions of the security forces when they regained control of prisons that had been taken over by inmates.

In the early hours of Sunday, January 18, security forces regained control of the maximum security Renovación prison, which had been taken by the inmates, who were also holding prison guards hostage.

Given these events, in simultaneous actions, several PNC agents were attacked by alleged gang members from Barrio 18, which left 11 police officers dead. According to the investigations, the attacks would have been coordinated by gang leaders.
