Presidency returns files of candidates for attorney general after ruling by the CC that requires a repeat evaluation

The General Secretariat of the Presidency returned to the Nomination Commission this Thursday, April 23, the list of six candidates for attorney general, in compliance with a resolution of the Constitutional Court (CC) that orders a reevaluation of the selection process, reported Executive sources.

The decision responds to a series of challenges presented against the procedure. As confirmed by the Secretary General of the Presidency, Juan Gerardo Guerrero Garnica, in total they intervened 20 resourcesamong them an amparo that motivated the resolution of the highest court.

“The deadline set by the Constitutional Court was four hours to return the payroll, and we are complying within that time,” said the official.

The CC ordered the Nomination Commission to roll back the process to the applicant qualification phase, in order to review the files againespecially in relation to the accreditation of professional experience of some candidates.

After the return, The Nomination Committee has 48 hours to reevaluate the profiles and a maximum of 24 additional hours to vote and define whether to maintain or modify the list of six candidates.

The judicial resolution keeps the appointment of the next attorney general on hold, while the new evaluations ordered by the Court are carried out.
