The United States Department of Justice reported the arrest of 25 members and associates of the so-called Mexican Mafia, a gang that operates in different prisons in California.

The authorities indicated that the members of the gang were arrested in the Southern California on charges such as kidnapping, extortion, narcotics trafficking and murder.

Fifteen of the alleged members of the mafia were arrested in Orange County, while 10 were arrested in Los Angeles.

In addition to the arrests, US authorities indicated that 12 other defendants in The case is in state custody.

The Mexican Mafia case, according to the Department of Justice, involves some 40 accused on more than 66 charges.

Some of these charges are conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business, violent crimes, trafficking in fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine, as well as the use of firearms during the commission of a violent crime.

In addition to the 25 arrests, authorities also reported the seizure of four kilograms of fentanyl, 120 pounds of methamphetamine, two pounds of heroin and three kilograms of cocaine.

They were also found 25 firearms and more than US$30 thousand in cash.

The Mexican Mafia is also known as “La Eme” and, according to authorities, exercises a “immense control” about gangs located in Southern California.
