Cheer Industry takes Guatemala to the world cheerleading podium at the ICU Cup

Guatemala continues writing its history in international competitive cheerleading. The Cheer Industry by CD Athletics team, under the direction of coach Mario Alegría, achieved third place in the ICU International Club Cup, held in Orlando, Florida, which represents one of the best results in the country in the history of this discipline. The result confirms the consolidation of Guatemala within the top 10 world of competitive cheerleading, one of the fastest growing sports globally.

Competitive cheerleading is divided into seven levels; Levels 6 and 7, known as Coed Elite and Coed Premier, are the most demanding and performant. The strongest teams on the planet compete in these categories, and Guatemala has managed to make its way thanks to the work of Cheer Industry by CD Athletics, an organization that represents the country since 2023 on international stages such as Costa Rica, Colombia and the United States. The team is made up of 23 athletes over 17 years of age, who train throughout the year to compete at the highest international level.

The Orlando event brings together three of the most important competitions in world cheerleading: the ICU World National Team Championship, the World Club Championship and the ICU International Club Cup. In this edition, Guatemala not only achieved third place in the ICU Cup, but also finished in fifth place in the Club World Cup and eighth in the Nations World Cup. a collective performance that reflects the sustained growth of Guatemalan cheerleading in recent years.

A project with a vision of the future

Beyond the results on the competition floor, Cheer Industry is committed to the development of cheerleading in Guatemala from the grassroots. The organization has the Cheer Industry Kids program “Lady JAGS”, where girls from the age of 6 begin their sports training with a view to representing the country in international competitions, building the foundations of the next generations that will take Guatemala even further in this sport.

The path to the elite has not been easy. Each athlete must have a US visa and cover their own participation expenses, which turns each international achievement into a collective effort that goes beyond sporting performance. With third place in the ICU Cup, Guatemala shows that work and discipline are rewarded on the most demanding stage of world cheerleading.
