For the 250 years of the independence of the United States, King Charles III of the United Kingdom gave a speech at the Capitolin which, among several topics, he addressed the “reconciliation” between his country and that of Donald Trump.
Although the American president did not attend the event but did attend the subsequent dinner, Vice President JD Vance was present during the king’s speech, in which he addressed the relationship between both countries and the need to maintain an alliance.
“The relationship between both countries is one of the most transcendental in human history,” said the king, in addition to pointing out that the two nations share “a story of reconciliation, renewal and extraordinary partnership“.
The speech, the first given by a British monarch since that of Queen Elizabeth II in 1991, was also marked by the message of “hope and reconciliation” expressed by the king.
However, the monarch warned that the alliance between the United Kingdom and the United States “cannot be limited to the achievements of the past, but to move towards future achievements”.
“I pray with all my heart that our alliance continues to uphold our shared values, together with our partners in Europe, the Commonwealth and around the world, and that let’s ignore calls for isolation“said Carlos.
The monarch also spoke about NATO, an organization that Trump has criticized on numerous occasions, and stated that “is committed to mutual defense“.
Charles III also urged Trump to maintain support for Ukraine in the war with Russia.
The king’s speech, analyzed by CNN, would not have been a criticism of the US government, but rather an “implicit disapproval of the country’s political direction”, in which the monarch He stressed the importance of “maintaining the pillars of democracy.”
