Comunicaciones starred in one of the most emotional comebacks of the Clausura 2026 quarterfinals this Saturday at the Cementos Progreso Stadium, where they beat Antigua GFC 2-0 to tie the series 4-3 on aggregate and advance to the semifinals of the tournament.
The two goals that qualified the Cremas came at key moments of the match and reflect the character of a team that went out to win from the first minute despite being at a disadvantage in the series after losing 3-2 in the first leg at the Pensativo Stadium.
The first goal came just in the 3rd minute on a set piece play. Agustín Vuletich took advantage of a free kick to head with precision to the far post of Luis Morán, who could do nothing against the cream striker’s shot. The early goal lit up Cementos Progreso and put Comunicaciones immediately ahead in the series, with the tiebreaker favoring the albos due to their better position in the Clausura table.
The second goal came in the 62nd minute and ended the classification. An error by Alexander Robinson left Dairon Reyes completely alone against Luis Morán, and the Cuban forward did not forgive to make the final 2-0 that sent Comunicaciones to the semifinals.
From that moment Antigua needed two goals to snatch the ticket from the Cremas, an impossible mission that the colonials could not accomplish in the remaining minutes despite Mauricio Tapia’s offensive changes in the final stretch of the match.
With the series tied 4-3 on aggregate, Comunicaciones advanced to the semifinals thanks to their best position in the Clausura 2026 table, where they finished fourth with 35 points above Antigua, which finished fifth with 34. A historic classification for a team that came to the tournament fighting to avoid relegation and is now among the four best in the Guatemalan championship.
