The authorities identified this Monday, May 4, as Edwin Ediberto Soto Ibáñez, 32, the man whose body was located inside the trunk of a vehicle last weekend in the Villa Hermosa 1 neighborhood, zone 7 of San Miguel Petapa.
According to the report from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif), the cause of death was craniocerebral trauma.
The discovery occurred on 35th Avenue, lot 11, sector 2, where agents from the 15th police station detained José Arturo Canahuí Pérez, 29, identified as the alleged perpetrator of the incident.
Canahuí Pérez, who is known by the alias “el Diablo”, was driving in a car with white plates P-374CCY. The victim’s body was transported in the trunk of the vehicle.
According to authorities, the body had bruises and scratches on different parts of the body.
At the time of the arrest, the agents verified the detainee’s data and established that he had a current arrest warrant for the crime of homicide, issued on April 10, 2026 by a court in Guatemala.
The suspect also has five records:
- Possession for consumption, August 13, 2015
- Theft, April 13, 2015
- Possession for consumption, February 25, 2015
- Offenses against public order, August 18, 2018
- Possession for consumption, November 17, 2018
The authorities indicated that it was not possible to establish the solvency of the vehicle due to limitations in the corresponding system.
The case remains under investigation to determine the circumstances under which Soto Ibáñez’s death occurred.
