The High Risk Court B continued this Tuesday, May 6, the trial against Kevin Manolo Rivas Cordón, accused by the Public Ministry (MP) of kidnapping or kidnapping and murder of his cousin Litzy Amelia Cordón Guardado, in a case that occurred in Zacapa in 2020.
During the hearing, the judge in charge reported that the debate was postponed due to a material impossibility, since she had to immediately comply with a resolution issued by the Criminal Chamber related to two appeals for reconsideration.
Before finishing the procedure, the judge pointed out that at different procedural stages the MP has been granted several postponements to carry out new evidentiary procedures.
According to the investigation exposed by the MP, Litzy Amelia Cordón Guardado was found dead on October 5, 2020 in Teculután, Zacapa. The report from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) establishes that the cause of death was asphyxiation due to strangulation. In addition, the victim had blows to different parts of his body and internal and external bleeding.
The judge decided to reschedule the continuity of the debate for May 13 at 8:30 a.m.
The trial began on January 15, 2026 in the High Risk Court B. According to the MP’s accusation, the crime would have been planned.
The Prosecutor’s Office against the Crime of Femicide indicated during its initial arguments that, after the kidnapping, Litzy’s family received a call demanding Q5 million for her release.
The Inacif expert report, to which Prensa Libre had access, details that the victim was beaten and showed signs of having been forcibly restrained and sexually abused.
The MP also stated in court that, after the death of Litzy Cordón, the body was abandoned in a vacant lot.
