Deportivo San Pedro is already planning its next challenge off the field. After securing its historic promotion to the National League, the club will begin the remodeling of its municipal stadium at the conclusion of the Clausura 2026 final, with the aim of adapting the venue to the demands of the highest category of Guatemalan soccer.
The board had announced months ago the start of the works, but decided to postpone them to keep the stadium available during the final phase in the First Division. Although other venues were evaluated, none were viable, so the last match at the current venue will be the final against Suchitepéquez, in a special farewell to the stage where they achieved promotion.
The works will have an estimated duration of between two and three months with the installation of new certified grass as the main priority. The plan includes the lifting of the existing surface and the placement of artificial fencing with the approval of FIFA, in addition to improvements in a part of the stands that will be carried out in the longer term.. The ultimate goal is to obtain the review and approval of the Stadium Review Commission so that the venue meets all the requirements of the National League before the start of the 2026-27 season.
A promotion that requires living up to it
Coach Edwin Vásquez recognized that promotion to the National League will force the club to reinforce several areas of the squad to compete in the highest category. The strategist assured that the priority will be to find players committed to the project and the history of soccer in San Pedro.
Vásquez also warned that not all the players who achieved promotion will continue in the team, as the board works to create a more competitive squad to avoid the difficulties that newly promoted clubs usually face.
The coach highlighted the historical value of the classification for the municipality and said he was proud to be part of the group that took the club to the National League after more than three decades of frustrated attempts. Now, the next challenge for San Pedro FC will be to adapt its stadium and strengthen the squad to face a new stage in the highest category of Guatemalan soccer.
