The Real Madrid midfielder, Eduardo Camavinga was left out of France’s final list for the World Cup, in a call led by his teammate Kylian Mbappé as the team’s main figure.

Coach Didier Deschamps explained the absence of the Madrid player during an interview with the TF1 channel, in which he presented the list of 26 players. “He is coming from a difficult season, in which he has played less and has had injuries,” he justified.

“He is still young,” added the coach, who also said he understood the ““disappointment” of the footballer for not being part of the group. Among the main new additions to the list, goalkeeper Robin Risser stands outfrom Lens, who will take the place of Lucas Chevalier, from PSG, and the inclusion of forward Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Regarding the choice of Risser as third goalkeeper, Deschamps pointed out that he has had “a very good season” and acknowledged that Chevalier may feel affected, although he recalled that “he has not played in recent months.”

Captain Kylian Mbappé reacted quickly to the call through his social networks. “It is an immense pride to be able to represent my country once again in the greatest of competitions. We are going to try to make them proud,” he wrote.

Other players who play in LaLiga also appear on the list, such as Aurélien Tchouaméni, from Real Madrid, and Jules Koundé, from Barcelona. Deschamps stressed that the call responds to a collective balance. “The best 26 are not necessarily there, it is a question of group and balance,” he explained.

The World Cup, which will be held from June 11 to July 19, will be Deschamps’ last competition as head of the French team, a position he has held since 2012.

In that sense, the coach admitted that he is experiencing a special moment. “It is a particular emotion. I am aware that I am living my last moments in this role, but I am focused on the objective,” he pointed out.

“The most important thing is the World Cup. Then I will do other things, although I have not made a decision yet,” he concluded.
